Miyajimaguchi Port Urban Design Competition Entry
DATE

July 9, 2015

Studio Rede submitted a competition entry for the Miyajimaguchi Urban Design Competition called Kami No TsuroUrban Design Strategy. Meaning the Path of God, the Kami No Tsuro Urban Design Strategy proposes a series of urban and phenomenological interventions to enhance and exalt the spiritual journey to Itsukushima Island from the Miyajimaguchi Railway Station and Ferry Terminal. The port experience is transformed from a profane and unmemorable transit connection into a spiritual threshold, provides a gateway to the past, amplifying the charged historical context and adding to the interpretive efforts of the preservation of one of the most unique Shinto shrines in Japan and a place of outstanding universal value.
