INTEGRATED DESIGN: URBAN SCALE

SCHOOL | Columbia GSAPP

YEAR | 2016

COURSE | Research Seminar

PROGRAM | Master of Architecture

Along the rivers of Bali, small groups of farmers meet regularly in water temples to manage their irrigation systems. Over the centuries, water temple networks have expanded to manage the ecology of rice terraces at the scale of whole watersheds. In June 2012, UNESCO recognized the subaks and water temples of Bali as a World Heritage Cultural Landscape. Co-authored with Professor J. Steven Lansing, co-director of the Singapore Complexity Center and an expert of Balinese anthropology, this spiritual guidebook offers visitors a comprehensive introduction to the four sites that comprise Bali’s World Heritage landscape.
